Veterinary Surgeon / Owner
Dr. Renee Lezama-Driscoll
With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Renee Lezama-Driscoll is a dedicated veterinarian and co-owner of Sapphire Vets. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of the West Indies in 2009 and has served on the executive of the Trinidad and Tobago Veterinary Association.
Dr. Lezama-Driscoll’s professional interests include spay and neuter surgeries and canine and feline dentistry. Her deep connection to animals started in her childhood home in San Juan, surrounded by over 25 dogs, chickens, and ducks. That early bond inspired her lifelong mission to use her skills to heal the four-legged family members who bring so much joy to their owners.
At home, she shares her space with three cats, one dog, and countless earthworms — part of her passion for permaculture and sustainable gardening. When she’s not at work, you’ll likely find her in the garden or the kitchen, or volunteering in community spay and neuter programs.

Director / Senior Veterinarian
Dr. Leah Pouchet
Dr. Leah Pouchet graduated from the University of the West Indies in 2009 and has since built an impressive career focused on integrative and holistic veterinary medicine. She completed an acupuncture course with IVAS in 2013 and has since earned multiple advanced certifications in equine and canine acupuncture, food therapy, and Tui Na massage. Dr. Pouchet has also completed training in herbal and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine therapies, including the use of mushrooms, CBD, and holistic oncology.
Her core strength lies in sports medicine, and she is passionate about helping animals live healthy, balanced lives — whether they’re athletes or beloved family pets.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Pouchet enjoys spending time with her two senior dogs and six cats, being around horses, exploring the outdoors, relaxing at the beach, and traveling to new countries.

Veterinary Surgeon
Dr. Anandaa Tosha Maharaj
Dr. Anandaa Maharaj joined Sapphire Vets in 2024 after earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of the West Indies. Though early in her career, she brings a fresh perspective and a deep passion for wildlife, exotic animal medicine, and conservation.
From a young age, Dr. Maharaj knew she was destined to work with animals. Growing up surrounded by wildlife and rescue animals, she developed a strong respect for all creatures — great and small. Today, she cares for three rescued dogs, a pet chicken, and a vibrant 6-foot freshwater aquarium.
When she’s not in the clinic, Dr. Maharaj enjoys bird watching and spending time in nature. She’s also an active participant in school tours at the Asa Wright Nature Centre, inspiring the next generation to care for the natural world.

Veterinarian
Dr. Anita Phillip
Dr. Anita Phillip earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (Honours) degree from the University of the West Indies in 2023 and brings over two years of experience to the Sapphire Vets team. She is also the author of a published research paper in the Iraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences on the gastrointestinal morphology and pathogenic fauna of cascadura fish (Hoplosternum littorale).
Her clinical interests include small animal medicine, including oncology, exotic animal medicine, parasitology, and equine medicine, an area she continues to develop through hands-on practice.
Dr. Phillip was drawn to veterinary medicine through early volunteer work at a local clinic, where she discovered a deep appreciation for the profession beyond day-to-day animal care. She joined Sapphire Vets to grow under the mentorship of highly experienced veterinarians in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Outside the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her two cats, socializing with friends, and exploring restaurants, movies, and shopping outings.
